What to look for in a Belly Dance Teacher
1. The teacher offers you information on her background,
what her qualifications are, what styles of bellydance she
teaches, where she learned, how long she has been
dancing and who are or were her teachers.
2. Teachers should be on time and prepared for the class.
3. Does the teacher have insuranc? This applies to studio
owners.
4. Does the teacher have more than two years of
bellydancing?
5. How long has the teacher been teaching?
6. Does the teacher take and invest time and money in
her/his own going education and training?
7. The teacher should correct you in a positive, non-criticizing
way.
8. She/he encourages you to learn from a variety of teachers
and makes information available about local workshops
and events that you might find useful.
9. She/he provides you with information about music,
costuming, history and styles of the dance being taught.
10. She/he understands the ethics of the dance. She/he is
supportive, friendly and remains positive and non-
judgemental. Understands your goals.
11. She/he creates opportunities for students to perform at
recitals, haflas, etc.
12. The teacher understands and knows that your safety is
of importance. Breaks down moves and corrects posture
and stance.
13. She/he has knowledge in anatomy and phsyiology.
Any of the following is a plus regarding background:
First aid- CPR training
First Responder
Fitness instructor
Yoga or Pilates instructor
Massage Therapist
Nurse
EMT- Paramedic
